Could be different individuals in the three photos. Quite a few around this area, often seen chasing (away?) female H. merope that I disturbed as I walked past. Latter two pics are in Cassinia longifolia.
Probably 3 individuals pictured. Occasional H.penelope among 1000s of common browns. Similar to male common brown (but no male common brown fly this time of year) and slightly smaller than female common brown. New species record for Riddells Creek.
Thousands of female Common Browns at this time of year and maybe 1 in 100 is H. penelope. Very difficult to find unless looking hard for them. Looks similar to male Common Browns which have all died by now. New species record for Riddells Creek.
