Trailing shrub with main stems prostrate and rooting at intervals, branches prostrate or ascending to about 15 cm high.
Leaves spreading, often more or less horizontal, lanceolate to ovate, 4–16 mm long, 1–8 mm wide, mucronate.
Flowers not obvious in dense c. 5–14-flowered spikes, on previous season's or older wood.

Small to large long-lived tree 6 - 30 m high.
Phyllodes narrowly elliptic, lanceolate or oblanceolate, 4–16 cm long, 6–25 mm wide, main veins 3–5, raised, distant. Flower heads, cream to yellow in clusters of 2 to 5.
Seed black, encircled by pink fleshy tissue.
One of the most wide-ranging trees in eastern Australia.
