Two immature black-winged stilts spotted near the Heavenly Queen Temple, Footscray. The red color of the water was caused by the reflection of orange plastic safety fences installed around the pond by Regional Rail Link
Usually a mat-forming low shrub to 50 cm high.
Leaves 5–18 mm long, 0.6–3 mm wide, sharply pointed a tip, lower surface usually paler; margins toothed.
Flowers bright red, tubular, often hidden by the foliage.
Small sweet-tasting green-black berries.
