Description

A large paropsid leaf beetle (15mm length) which looked fully black to the eye but the flash has revealed a set of full length, deep red lines.
No dents were noticed on or around the pronotum.
I have always found these at night so suspect they hide in daytime maybe under bark.

  1. Chris Lindorff  G'day Mark. Have added this name. Good spotting.

  2. Martin Lagerwey  Mark, I can clearly see the foveae by its reflected light in image 2. Your description is consistent with both nigerrima and morio. I have added one of each to assist your comparison. The most reliable differentiation is in the striae and not the color. I cannot determine which species you have because they need really good images to determine but are so darned hard to take.
