It was used as a holding yard for cattle and sheep from Newmarket Saleyards for the Abattoir owned by William Angliss. The land has been restored to contain the natural waterholes that existed here before white settlement and it is now preserved as a natural wetlands park. Landscape architect Dr. Jill Orr-Young did the initial landscape design in 1980's. Friends of Newell's Paddock was formed in 2014.
Sawfly (perga spp.) Two possibility: Perga affinis or Perga dorsalis. In "Pests, Diseases, Ailments and Allies of Australian Plants" book by David Jones (2015), page 284 and 285, Perga dorsalis is longer (up to 7cm) than Perga affinis (up to 4cm), and has prominent bristly white hairs.
Female Rose Robin ? Making loud tuneful call. Slightly bigger than grey fantail.It was identified by Chris Lindorff as female Golden Whistler. Someone spotted a male bird in Kensington on April 13 (Eremaea Birdlines-Victoria)
